MAINE: my final frontier. These are the voyages of the Scooter Vespa 250 i.e. Super. Its continuing mission - to explore America's most heavily forested state - to roam the vast coastline, numberless lakes, and mighty mountains. To boldly go where no scooter has gone before!

Well, that was a treat!

With tongue in cheek, I review the past month as a "treat." Actually, I have used my snowblower more frequently than my Vespa.

Four storms versus three rides, but who's counting?

Most of December, I endured a horrible cold, so severe I thought it might be the end! But my dear wife cheered me up with the following cartoon:

Once I recovered enough to venture out, I rode down to Old Orchard Beach, scene of so many happy summer days.

There is indeed an ocean above the snow

While I rested in my misery, Kathy cleared our roof of new-fallen snow.

It wasn't all rest and recovery. On Christmas Day, our three sons visited, two accompanied by members of the gentle sex.

    1. Martha,

Thank you - it's good to be better! And I have understood with ever-increasing depth for nearly 40 years how much I need Kathy.

    1. Lori,

I give all credit to the appearance of my family to my dear wife - except for the receding hairline, which I loveingly passed on to my sons.

  3. Despite the cold and the snow, I'm glad to see that you and your Scooter made it to OOB, if you had scaled that mountain of snow, you would have found our beautiful ocean. Oh, and you are a lucky man, you have a beautiful family!

    1. Elizabeth,

Thank you. Climbing the mountain wasn't an option; no sherpas available!

  4. Glad you are feeling better. No cold is ever fun, but the ones that drag out are the worst.

At least your wife took care of you and the snow chores too.

    1. Trobairitz,

At a certain age, I think everything unpleasant drags out, while the good stuff streaks by like a comet.

did your flu miraculously cure itself when the snow duties were done ? That's what I'm thinking. I do get a bit fatigued when I see others working . . .

hope you are feeling better. it was probably another ploy to get family to visit, so you don't have to leave your house. (good planning)

    1. Bob,

Well, it's no secret that I am less than ambitious. I claim the high ground and proclaim that I am conserving my precious energy. My family derides this claim and counters that I am lazy. My counter-claim is that they are trying to do me in, and I'mn re-writing my will. I am waiting to hear from their people.

  6. What is a snow blower? Oh, and what is snow, anyway? Here at the wet coast we don't seem to get that anymore.

  7. Sonja,

With just 28 days until pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training, I have forgotten about snow and the machines used to move it. And if reminded by the need to move outside the house, I will refuse to acknowledge the aforementioned unmentionable!

  8. Well. It's good to see you're up and writing. I was getting worried. Of course you and I know that we snuck out for a ride when Kathy wasn't looking, but let's keep that our little secret.
