MAINE: my final frontier. These are the voyages of the Scooter Vespa 250 i.e. Super. Its continuing mission - to explore America's most heavily forested state - to roam the vast coastline, numberless lakes, and mighty mountains. To boldly go where no scooter has gone before!

Well, at least it's melting fast...

We all knew it was coming, but since our weather prognosticators have been so wrong so often over the past winter, we hoped that the forecast of a foot of snow on the first day of Spring would be as fantastical as many of the previous mistakes.

Well, this time they were correct. Happy Spring - now dig out the shovels!

I'm on the outside looking in...

...at a well-used snowblower and a neglected Vespa.

It's like looking at an archeological dig - layers of past storms, reminders that this has been a winter of too much snow

The driveway is clear...
The street is passable...

...but my first load of firewood for next winter has arrived, and Kathy is home from work, so I'll ride tomorrow.

If only the wood was delivered after you scooted away . . .

    1. Bob,

Nah - had to wait for the wood to come, then had three baseball games to watch on AT BAT, then Kathy came home, then I cooked supper, then I watched another baseball game, then I listened to a game on radio, then you commented on this post, then I had to reply, then it was too dark to ride, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow.

No snow is forecast, but we know how THAT goes...

  2. Priorities. Your priorities are proper. Boy I hate saying that. :)

  3. Lori,

It's easier when one is retired - and I love saying that! Stay tuned for the ride Mike and I are taking on Saturday - it's Maple Sunday in Maine, and we are going to partake in abundance!

  4. That driveway would not be fun to navigate in the ice and snow especially on the Vespa. Good job waiting until the snow melts.

  5. We've been counting on some wrong forecasts as well but after all of the failures, I guess they're getting better and predicting. Sounds like another event for this coming weekend, still cold and below normal, though it is supposed to moderate a bit. We'd actually prefer a nice, slow transition now that all of the snow is here.

  6. I'm only half back to life. I can now see Blogger images. Turned out the motel "improved" the internet service here, but who knew? So that was my viewing Blogger images issue. But why just Blogger? No clue.

I hope soon Google will allow me to be reinstated after I supplied them with documentation proving I'm old enough to have a blog...

We are still such a mix of deep snow and no snow in this area. All that drifted snow isn't going anywhere soon.

  7. Winter is getting really old isn't it. Soon you'll be tearing up the coastline!

    1. Steve,

I find it hard to believe that I used to enjoy winter! But now, the cold season makes my body hurt, it chills my brain, and lowers my spirits.

But the snow is nearly gone now, and although the temp doesn't often hit 45 in the daytime, it doesn't drop much below 25 at night.

      Good things are coming!
